Listen to A Message to an Ant

There's a library in Fort Myers, Florida at Rutenberg Park, which is bordered by a small lake. When I wanted to sit outside by myself and think or write I would often choose this grassy spot right by a large tree.
One day, as I was writing in my journal, an ant crawled across my leg and this song was born.

Music boxes make me feel nostalgic and child-like. I just used my Casio for the sound of the music box, nothing special. There wasn't much more to the recording than that, just me singing over a simple little melody.

It must be nice to have somewhere you know you belong. An ant is born with a purpose and a sense of community and no need to question either. If anything, I see this song as a wish for myself. I've never had a home I wanted to come back to. And the journey I took to find myself in Los Angeles was ultimately my search for this elusive dream place.
